Check list

Use this as your checklist

Packing & Unpacking

  • If we have quoted you for this service then there is little more to add.
  • If you are packing items yourself then please ensure that the cartons/boxes you use are strong enough to permit stacking in the van without harming the contents. Please ensure each carton/box is not filled above its top level, which prevents the carton/box from sealing and stacking.
  • Please ensure that cartons/boxes are not packed too heavy to lift. Use heavy items on the base of the packing box and complete with lighter items at the top.

Self Assembly Furniture

  • Self assembly furniture is not designed to be flat packed, moved and reassembled, so it is not insured should the furniture not fit together perfectly after the move.
  • Self assembly furniture needs to be dismantled before the move day, either by the customer or through the Baggaleys homemakers service.

Attics and Lofts

  • Due to Health and Safety regulations unless they are fully boarded and light our moving teams are not allowed to enter.
  • If lofts/attics are not boarded please ensure contents of the unboarded areas are sorted and placed in a convenient room.

Removals into Storage

  • Please check that any important personal papers and documents are retained by yourself prior to putting your possessions into storage.
  • Whilst your possessions are in storage you wish to search through the stored items, this can be arranged at a small cost which covers the handling costs.
  • Fridges & freezers should be disconnected prior to the moving day.
  • Disconnection and reconnection of the above can be arranged through Baggaleys homemakers services. Please confirm if you wish to book this service.
  • The drums on washing machines must be secured to avoid damage, with the appropriate brackets obtained from the local authorised agents.
  • Fridges and freezers should be cleaned out with detergent to avoid unpleasant odours. They should be dried thoroughly.
  • The moving teams are strictly not allowed by the authorities to tamper with any mains supply.

Long Term Storage

  • Washing machines and dishwashers must be completely drained of surplus water as damp, mildew and seizure of component parts can take place when these appliances are not in use for a considerable amount of time.

Curtains/Blinds/Items fixed to walls

  • The above items should be taken down prior to the moving team arriving, unless particular arrangements have been made with Baggaleys.

Clothing

  • Clothing that is already on hangers can remain on the them as Baggaleys will provide wardrobe cartons for packing and moving.

Bedding and Linen

  • All bedding and linen should be folded and laid out on the beds ready for packing if Baggaleys full pack service has been provided.

Audio and Video Equipment

  • Best practice for removal of such items is in its original packaging.
  • Record players/decks should be secured for transit in accordance with the manufacturers instructions ready for the moving team.

China/Glass/Ornaments and books

Food Stuffs

  • Food cannot be moved into storage.
  • When moving direct from one home to your new home, please ensure any packets, lids, bottle tops are secured.
  • If we are moving contents of a freezer, condense into polythene bags, so the contents can be easily lifted at the collection address and refilled at the delivery address.

Contents of Garages and Garden Sheds

  • Items from the garage and shed should be sorted out before the moving day; any rubbish discarded, tools cleaned and put into bundles for ease of moving/lifting.
  • Any flammable substances, old tins of paint, creosote, paraffin, matches, gas bottles or similar items, cannot be carried by Baggaleys, as this invalidates any insurance cover. Any other containers/bottles should be securely sealed to prevent spillage.

Pets

  • Pets should travel with the family. The most mildly tempered creatures can become aggressive when the family home is being moved.

Access

  • Access at the collection and the delivery address is a vital part of a removal due to the size of the removal vehicle. Please inform us in advance if there will be any difficulty in parking a large vehicle outside either property.
  • On the move day itself it is advisable that your neighbours are informed that a large removals vehicle will be arriving and may block the entrance/exit to driveways.
